Coalition of the willing: Britain and France for the animated Illusionist. Watch the trailer.

The French directory Sylvain Chomet is known for the grotesque and amiable  The Triplettes of Belleville (Oscar animation nominee in 2003).

His new work L' Illusioniste (22 million$ budget) is based on a autobiographical script of the famous French director Jacques Tati (since 1956), which narrates his own relationship with his daughter.

However, a letter of Tati's granddaughter in the British Observer accused Chomet for disrespect to her father's memory. But Scots are happy, since the animated film gives a colourful magic view of Edinburgh.

The Illusionist
premiered at Berlin  Film Festival (February 2010), with very positive reviews, and has opened in France.

PLOT

An illusionist and magician in 50s Edinburgh has seen its fame on the wane, now that the new rock'n'roll movement has started. His acquaintance with a young girl changes his whole life.
